Maintaining a high degree of motivation and inspiration over an extended period of time can be difficult. It does not help that many of us work behind a desk in drab uninspiring offices.
Using personal photographs and presenting them in a personal and pleasing manner is a simple and accessible way to focus your mind and find motivation whenever you sit down.
Here is a list of visual stimulus you can implement and why it works.
Pictures of Family and friends
- No matter what you are doing, it rarely just benefits you. Many times even the smallest tasks have a larger impact on a group of people.
- Use the love of your friends and family to inspire you. If you can’t do it for yourself, you may be willing to do it for them.
- Pictures of your wife and children can work to remind you of the legacy you want to leave behind.
- You may have a relative who accomplished a great thing, like fighting in World War 2. A picture with his Medals may tell you that nothing is impossible.
- I keep a picture of my son in my work office. People usually mention the picture when I am working away at something on the computer. While I may forget to look at the picture from time to time, a client mentioning you child or children may remind you of why you are working so hard and how lucky you are to have them.
- The pictures don’t have to be recent; they just have to be meaningful. I have a high school picture that always reminds me to not to take any task too seriously and always have fun.
Your Team picture.
- Whether you are part of a team at a large multinational or the part of a small startup you need to remember you are contributing towards a larger project and that your team members need you.
Replace the pictures on a regular basis.
- Remember these pictures are for you as much as it is for guests or clients.
- Old photos can disappear into the background, if you don’t want to use new pictures, rearrange the photos.
Stay away from Black and white pictures.
- Being motivated and inspired is about vibrant colors. Black and white can be artistic, but it can also be drab.
Invest in nice frames.
- Frames can highlight the message behind a picture and enhance its beauty and power.
Electronic Options
- Electronic frames have the benefit of being easy to change and the slideshow feature can keep the pictures fresh.
- They also allow you to use video and audio playback which can increase its power. I know when I hear my son laugh, it always brightens my mood.
Computer desktop pictures
- It’s nice to restart your computer in the morning and being see a welcoming face or message.
Destination pictures
- While you would think a picture of your favorite’s vacation spot or dream vacation would motivate you, it will actually do the opposite. The eagerness to get to a vacation can put you in a vacation mood if it’s too close and can make you feel like you will never reach it if it’s too far.
- You want to live in the moment and be present, not planning your next trip.
Use social media networks
- You now have the ability to draw from a wealth of photos from your friends. Look through online photo albums and see if there are any meaningful pictures you can use.
Changing your home workspace is easier than your work space. Customization of a work office space might be limited by the corporate culture, technical setup or space. Therefore, extra effort must be used to strike a balance of office compliance and individuality. Take your cue from your co-workers and slowly expand the customization until you get pushback.
In a time when we take more picture then ever before, and are less likely to treasure these memories because they are so abundant, try to put them to good use.
Use the positive energy of these memories to drive you towards success and remind you why you need to perform. Draw on the essence of people and their meaning to you. It’s the greatest payoff you can get from taking beautiful pictures.
